TC-2000 Tutorial #2

TC2000 Quick Scan Primer
  1. Scans are used to select a narrow range or group of stocks that comply with a set of conditions we define. All the stocks in the database, 9218 at last count, provide an endless list of possibilities to sort through. We can simplify this search.
  2. Click on the "lightning bolt" icon on the tool bar, then on the "Create New" button. This brings up a box called "Editing conditions for: New EasyScan."
  3. On the drop-down menu at the bottom, "Watch List to Scan," click on "All Stocks." This defines the database you are going to scan. Later you can choose other options for different scans.
  4. Now click on the drop-down menu "Criterion Library," and you'll see the four options: General, Fundamentals, Personal, and Technicals. From these four choices we can define a bunch of criterion for our scan. For now, click on Technicals.
  5. Scan down the list until you find "Price per Share-H"
  6. Double click on this option. It puts the choice into the top window under "Condition" with the vertical blue bar on the right. This bar has value marks on the left with rank marks on the right (rank from 10 near the bottom to 90 near the top). This bar actually represents 100% of all stocks in the database, from 0 to 100%.
  7. Click on the top of the blue bar and drag the top of the bar down to the 50 rank mark. The Value in the top of the screen should be "0 to 11.5" which includes all stocks in the data-base with price from 0 to $11.50.
  8. Click on "Count Summary." It should show around 4755, or half the total stock in the database selected in this price range. Close the "Count Summary" window.
  9. Click on the blue vertical bar, top and bottom of the blue range, click and drag, get a feel of how to select certain segments of the total range. Notice how you can move the top and bottom of the range selected with the four small arrows on the right of the bar.
  10. Whenever you make any change to the size of the bar you can click on the "Count Summary" to see how the chosen database has changed.
  11. Let's add a second criteria to this scan: Click on the Criterion Library pull-down menu and chose General. Now double click on "Optionable." This puts that criterion at the top, under Condition. The scan criterion now has selected all optionable stocks under $11.50.
  12. Check the new "Count Summary" and it's about 814.
  13. A third criteria will come from the Fundamentals tab in the Criterion Library. Double click on Capitalization, then select the rank between 25 and 50. This chooses 25% of the database where the capitalization is between $32 million and $121 million. Checking the new count summary has reduced our stock list to 268. This is becoming more manageable.
  14. Pick a fourth criteria from the remaining Library option, "Personals." This library is new to this version of TC2000 (vs. 4.1) and includes many interesting choices. Additionally, in this library section we can create our own, but we'll get to that later.
  15. Double click on "Stochastic crossing down through 80." This is not a "variables" choice so we just take it as it appears. We can't choose a rank or value. This will select those stocks where the stochastic is near the 80% line in the window, near the top. This "usually" means the red stochastic line will be near the top.
  16. Now check the "Count Summary" and we see about 20 stocks remaining. It is now easy for us to look at these to see if they are worthwhile.
  17. So, our four-criterion scan now looks like this:

    					Value Rank
    	1 - Optionable stocks
    	2 - Capitalization 32 - 121	25 - 50
    	3 - Stochastics, Crossing down through 80
    	4 - Price per share 0 to $11.50	1 to 50

And the count summary says there are only 20 stocks that meet these requirements.
  18. Click on "Save As" and give this scan some moniker you can remember.
  19. You will be taken to the EasyScan window listing all scans that have been identified, with the scan you just created highlighted showing the number of stocks in the scan.
  20. Now click on "Scan Charts." You can view all 20 charts by clicking on the space bar, mental notes taking as you see the personalities of your selection. You should see some rollers in the group.
  21. To flag stocks you want to look at more closely, simply press the "F" key to flag them as you space through the group. This will put an asterisk by the stocks so flagged. After you have gone through them all, click on "Watch List" on the top tool bar, "Copy to other list," "Flagged Symbols," scroll to the bottom of the "Destination Chart List," and double click on [New WatchList]. Give the new watch list a name to remember then press Okay.
  22. You can go to this watch list any time later by clicking on the "WatchList" pull-down menu and find the name you gave it in step 20.
  23. You can always go back to the scan by clicking on the lightning bolt, selecting the scan you want, then either press "Scan Charts" to see what new stocks fit the criteria, or "Edit" to modify the requirements.
  24. Your imagination can run wild with combinations that fit your own particular brand of stock picks. EnjoyJ
